Manchester, N.H. (January 31) -- A 12-0 scoring
run in the second half helped Assumption rally past Saint Anselm by
an 88-78 final on Saturday afternoon in Northeast-10 Conference
men's basketball action at Stoutenburgh Gym.
Saint Anselm led by as many as 12 points in the first half and
took a 43-35 lead into the halftime break. In the opening period,
the Hawks were led by 13 points from Thomas Baudinet
(Watertown, Conn.), while Patrick Shea
paced the visitors with 12 points.
In the opening half of the second period, the two teams traded
the lead back and forth four times before the Hawks pushed the lead
to 62-57 with 9:02 remaining. Over the next 3:06, the Greyhounds
took control with a 12-0 run and held a 69-62 advantage. Assumption
was helped by 17 second-half points from Courtland
Bluford to lead by as many as 11 down the stretch. Saint
Anselm cut the lead to six points with 3:33 remaining, but could
get no closer in the loss.
Baudinet led the Hawks with 28 points, while Greg
Vetrano (Andover, Mass.) had 21 points and seven assists.
John Tello (Ridgefield Park, N.J.) added 10 points
as well. Bluford was tremendous for Assumption in the second half
and finished with a team-best 21 points. Four Greyhounds ended up
in double figures.
Saint Anselm falls to 12-8 overall and 7-8 in the Northeast-10,
while Assumption now sits at 14-6 overall and 12-4 in the league.
The Hawks are back in action on Wednesday night as the team hosts
Southern Connecticut for a 7:30 p.m. start.
