Cardinals Fly Past Hawks 3-0

Plattsburgh, N.Y. (January 28)-The Saint Anselm women's ice hockey team dropped a non-conference game to two-time defending National Champion Plattsburgh State 3-0 at the Stafford Ice Arena Wednesday night. The loss drops the Hawks to 11-5-1 on the season, while the win improves the No. 2 ranked Cardinals to 12-3-1 on the year.

The two teams were held scoreless through the first period by Plattsburgh goalie Anne Loewen (Winnipeg, Manitoba) setting aside four shots and Saint Anselm netminder Carley Berry (Danvers, Mass.) stopping 13 attempts.

Late in the second period the Cardinals struck first and never looked back as Meghan DiJulio (Slave Lake, Alberta) put Plattsburgh on the board by beating Berry to make it 1-0.

In the third period, Shay Bywater (Port Coquitlam, British Columbia) and Kate Fairfield (Toronto, Ontario) scored just over two minutes apart to give the Cardinals a 3-0 victory.

Berry made 41 saves on 44 shots in the losing effort, while Loewen had 12 saves in the shutout victory.

The Hawks return to the ice Friday night, with a road contest against Nichols College at 6 p.m.
