Hawks Edged by Cadets 1-0

Northfield, Vt. (January 23)-The Saint Anselm College women's ice hockey team dropped an ECAC East game 1-0 to the Cadets of Norwich University on Friday night at Kreitzberg Arena. The loss drops the Hawks to 10-4-1 overall and 8-4-0 in league play, while the win improves the Cadets to 8-7 overall and 7-5 in ECAC East action.

The game was kept scoreless until Cadet junior forward Sophie Leclerc (Barre, Vt.) beat Hawk goaltender Carley Berry (Danvers, Mass.) with just over seven and a half minutes left in the third period.

With just seconds remaining Norwich was called for a checking penalty and the Hawks pulled Berry from the goal for the six-on-four advantage. The lady Hawks however could not score and the Cadets skated on to the 1-0 league win.

Norwich goalie Cindy Fortin (Quebec City, Quebec) had 23 saves in the shutout victory, while Berry finished the game with 21 saves and one goal allowed in the losing effort.

The Hawks hit the ice again tomorrow, January 24th, as they will travel to Castleton State for a 2 p.m. start.
