Northfield, Vt. (January 23)-The Saint Anselm
College women's ice hockey team dropped an ECAC East game 1-0 to
the Cadets of Norwich University on Friday night at Kreitzberg
Arena. The loss drops the Hawks to 10-4-1 overall and 8-4-0 in
league play, while the win improves the Cadets to 8-7 overall and
7-5 in ECAC East action.
The game was kept scoreless until Cadet junior forward
Sophie Leclerc
(Barre,
Vt.) beat Hawk goaltender
Carley Berry
(Danvers,
Mass.) with just over seven and a
half minutes left in the third period.
With just seconds remaining Norwich was called for a checking
penalty and the Hawks pulled Berry from the goal for the
six-on-four advantage. The lady Hawks however could not score and
the Cadets skated on to the 1-0 league win.
Norwich goalie Cindy Fortin (Quebec
City,
Quebec) had 23 saves in the
shutout victory, while Berry finished the game with 21 saves and
one goal allowed in the losing effort.
The Hawks hit the ice again tomorrow, January 24th, as they will
travel to Castleton State for a 2 p.m. start.
