Hawks Fall to Golden Lions 2-1

Brookhaven, N.Y. (September 7)-The Saint Anselm women's soccer team dropped a non-conference game to Dowling College 2-1 at Golden Lions Field Sunday on afternoon. The loss drops the Hawks to 1-2-0 overall on the year, while the victory gives the Golden Lions a record of 2-0-1.

The Golden Lions struck first in the 18th minute when junior forward Vanessa Moreira took a pass from sophomore midfielder Cassi Cronin and buried it past Hawk goalie Jacqueline Cooney (Braintree, Mass.).

In the second half, the Golden Lions extended their lead when Stephanie Cotter passed it to Kristin Cipriano, who beat Cooney to make the lead 2-0.

In the games 70th minute, Kathleen Kennerly (Weymouth, Mass.) put the Hawks on the board off of a free kick, as she scored past Golden Lions goalkeeper Alicia Commisso to cut the lead in half, but it was not enough as the game would end 2-1 in favor of Dowling College.

The Hawks return to action Tuesday, September 9th, as they take on conference-foe New Haven in Connecticut at 4 p.m. The Golden Lions return to the field Wednesday, September 10th, as they will take on Georgian Court at home at 6 p.m.
