Brookhaven, N.Y. (September 7)-The Saint Anselm
women's soccer team dropped a non-conference game to Dowling
College 2-1 at Golden Lions Field Sunday on afternoon. The
loss drops the Hawks to 1-2-0 overall on the year, while the
victory gives the Golden Lions a record of 2-0-1.
The Golden Lions struck first in the 18th minute when junior
forward Vanessa Moreira took a pass from sophomore
midfielder Cassi Cronin and buried it past Hawk
goalie Jacqueline Cooney (Braintree, Mass.).
In the second half, the Golden Lions extended their lead when
Stephanie Cotter passed it to Kristin
Cipriano, who beat Cooney to make the lead 2-0.
In the games 70th minute, Kathleen Kennerly (Weymouth,
Mass.) put the Hawks on the board off of a free kick, as
she scored past Golden Lions goalkeeper Alicia
Commisso to cut the lead in half, but it was not enough as
the game would end 2-1 in favor of Dowling College.
The Hawks return to action Tuesday, September 9th, as they take
on conference-foe New Haven in Connecticut at 4 p.m. The Golden
Lions return to the field Wednesday, September 10th, as they
will take on Georgian Court at home at 6 p.m.
