Worcester, Mass. (September 4) -- Sophomore
Annie Heaney (East Kingston, N.H.) scored just
6:27 into the game to give the Saint Anselm field hockey a 1-0 lead
as the Hawks earned a 2-0 shutout win over Assumption on Thursday
night.
Heaney scored her unassisted tally off a goalie deflection for
the lone score of the first half. The Greyhounds managed 10 penalty
corners in the first half, but were unable to find the back of the
net. Maggie Dwyer (Elkridge, Md.) closed out
the scoring with a goal on a penalty stroke at the 48:20 mark in
the second half.
Riley Haddock (Falmouth, Maine) made eight
saves for the shutout win, while Danielle Luongo
made two saves to take the loss.
Saint Anselm, now 1-1 overall and in Northeast-10 play, is back
in action on Saturday afternoon as the Hawks host Southern
Connecticut for a 1 p.m. start.
