Manchester, N.H. (August 31) -- Andrea
Slaven (Danvers, Mass.) had a goal and an assist to lead
Saint Michael's past Saint Anselm by a 2-0 final on Sunday
afternoon in Northeast-10 Conference field hockey action.
The Hawks seemingly struck first midway through the first half
when a blast from senior Ellen Maruwzewski (Leominster,
Mass.) found the back of the net. That goal was waved
off though and the two teams headed into the halftime break tied at
0-0.
Just over 10 minutes into the half it was the Purple Knights who
took a 1-0 lead as a blast from Slaven was tipped in by
Kaitlin Koffink (Goffstown, N.H.) for her first
goal of the season. Slaven added an insurance goal at the 54:08
mark to account for the 2-0 final.
Riley Haddock (Falmouth, Maine) turned aside 12
shots in the loss, while Saint Michael's goalie Jordan
Smalling (Essex Junction, Vt.) made five saves in the
victory.
Saint Anselm is back in action on Thursday night as the Hawks
take on Assumption under the lights beginning at 7 p.m.
