Rindge, N.H. (April 8) -- The women's lacrosse
team bested Franklin Pierce 24-16 on Tuesday evening at Sodexho
Field. The win improves the Hawks to 3-6 overall, 2-4 in
Northeast-10 play. The loss drops Franklin Pierce to 1-8, 0-6 in
league action.
The Hawks were led by junior attack, Michaela Rocha
(Rye, N.H.), as she netted six goals on the evening.
Courtney Ford (Concord, Mass.) and Tiea
Kurlowecz (Concord, Mass.) had four goals each, while
Emily Traicoff (Beverly, Mass.), Arden
Lyons (Westford, Mass.), and Chelsea Rader
(Hingham, Mass.) all had two goals apiece. Meghan
Ayers (Sayville, N.Y.), Beth Millian (Arlington,
Mass.), Tia Karon (Medford, Mass.), and
Jennifer Carew (Concord, N.H.) had a goal each in
the contest. Ayers, Ford, Rocha, and Traicoff all also picked up an
assist each.
The Hawks and Ravens played tight through the first 9 minutes of
the contest, as the Hawks held a slim 5-3 advantage thanks to
Millian's lone goal of the game at the 21:06 mark. The Hawks broke
it open up to as much as a nine goal lead in the first half, as the
half ended with the Hawks holding a 15-7 advantage.
Rader and Ford scored two goals apiece in the early going in the
second half to put the Hawks up 19-8, while Traicoff's pair of
goals came in succession at the 15:32 mark and 12:24 mark to put
the Hawks up 21-10. As play wound down, Rocha netted her sixth goal
of the game with 1:22 remaining to give the Hawks the 24-16
victory.
Katherine O'Hara (Norwell, Mass.) made 13 saves
for the Hawks in the first 42 minutes of the game on way to her
third win of the season between the pipes.
The Hawks return to the field on Saturday, hosting Assumption at
1 p.m.
