Manchester, N.H. (April 12) -- Led by five
goals from junior Michaela Rocha (Rye, N.H.), the
Saint Anselm women's lacrosse team cruised to a 21-5 victory over
visiting Assumption College on Saturday afternoon at Melucci Field.
Saint Anselm jumped on the board just 21 seconds into the game
as Courtney Ford (Concord, Mass.) scored the first
of her three goals on the afternoon. The Hawks pushed the lead to
5-0 before Sarah Roos and Shannon
Howard each scored to pull the Greyhounds to within
5-2. Saint Anselm found the net four more times though in the
opening period for the 9-3 halftime advantage. In the second half
it was all Saint Anselm as Rocha scored three goals with a span of
1:04 to make the score 12-3 with 27:51 left in the game and the
Hawks outscored the Greyhounds 12-2 in the second half. Ten
different players found the back of the net for Saint Anselm as the
Hawks won their second straight game.
Katherine O'Hara (Norwell, Mass.) made 10 saves
for the win, while Lauren Matysiak made seven
saves in the defeat.
With the win, the Hawks are now 4-6 overall and 3-4 in
Northeast-10 play, while Assumption falls to 1-11 overall and 1-6
in league play. Saint Anselm returns to action on Sunday afternoon
as the Hawks travel to C.W. Post to take on the Pioneers beginning
at Noon.
