North Andover, Mass. (April 6) -- The women's
lacrosse team dropped a 20-10 final to Merrimack on Sunday
afternoon at Warrior Field. The win improves Merrimack to 5-2, 4-2
Northeast-10. The loss drops the Hawks to 2-6, 1-4 in league play.
The Hawks took a 2-0 lead with goals from Tiea Kurlowecz
(Concord, Mass.) and Meghan Ayers (Sayville,
N.Y.), but the Warriors responded with a pair of goals.
The Hawks scored another pair of goals, with Beth Millian
(Arlington, Mass.) and Michaela Rocha (Rye,
N.H.) scoring, putting the Hawks up 4-2. Merrimack again
responded with a pair of goals to tie the game, but
Jennifer Carew (Concord, N.H.) scored a pair of
goals to put the Hawks up 6-4.
Merrimack then struck for three goals, but Courtney Ford
(Concord, Mass.) stopped the bleeding with a goal to tie
the game back up at 7-7. The Warriors went on to score four goals
through the end of the first half to take an 11-7 lead into the
second half though.
The Warriors went on to dominate most of the second half,
scoring three more goals early in the half to extend the lead to
14-7. Ford struck for her second goal of the game to put the Hawks
down 14-8, but another three-goal stretch from the Warriors put
them up 17-8. Ford struck again, but the Warriors extended the lead
to 20-9. Ford scored with 9:28 left in the game to account for the
final goal of the game, as neither team managed to net a goal from
there on out.
The Hawks are back in action on Tuesday, heading to Franklin
Pierce for a 6 p.m. game against the Ravens.
