Waltham, Mass. (April 30) -- Saint Anselm first
baseman Nicole Baginski (Beverly, Mass.)
scored on a fielding error in the top of the 11th inning to lift
Saint Anselm to an 8-7 win over Bryant University on Wednesday
afternoon to clinch a Northeast-10 Tournament berth for the Hawks.
The game was originally played on April 22nd, but was called due to
darkness after 10 innings tied at 7-7. Today's completion of the
game was played at Bentley College, prior to the Bulldog's
doubleheader with Bentley.
Baginski began the inning on second base and when
Katherine Theodorou (Glen Cove, N.Y.) scored on an
error by the Bryant second baseman, Baginski came home from second
for the eventual winning run. Sophomore pitcher Katie Corey
(Weymouth, Mass.) picked up the win for the Hawks as she
pitched a hitless 11th inning, striking out a pair.
The Hawks are now 21-17 overall and end the regular season at
15-13 in Northeast-10 play. Bryant now sits at 24-12 overall and
21-5 in the Northeast-10. Saint Anselm is now awaiting the pairings
for this weekend's Northeast-10 Tournament, which will all be
announced on Thursday afternoon by the league office. The
tournament will be played on Saturday and Sunday at top-seeded in
Le Moyne College in Syracuse, N.Y.
