Manchester, N.H. (March 19) -- The women's
lacrosse team dropped a 12-8 final to Southern New Hampshire on a
cold and rainy Wednesday afternoon at Southern New Hampshire's
Athletic Complex. The Hawks fall to 2-3 with the loss, 1-1
Northeast-10, while the Penmen improved to 2-2, 2-0 in league play.
The Hawks jumped out to an early 1-0 lead thanks to a
Courtney Ford (Concord, Mass.) goal, assisted by
Beth Millian (Arlington, Mass.). The Penmen
responded with four goals to take a 4-1 lead before
Meghan Ayers (Sayville, N.Y.) scored, assisted by
Millian, to cut the lead in half. The Penmen responded with three
more goals though to take a 7-3 lead before Ford struck again for
her second goal of the game.
The Hawks fought back from the 8-3 deficit at the half
outscoring the Penmen 5-4 in the second half, but did not pull out
the comeback victory. Michaela Rocha (Rye, N.H.)
scored three consecutive goals in the second to cut the lead to
9-6, with the first goal assisted on by Michaela Power
(Arlington, Mass.) and the next two being scored
unassisted. Ford scored two late goals in the half, the first
assisted on by Ayers and the second assisted by Rocha, but the
Penmen put away the Hawks 12-8.
The Penmen used full advantage of the free position shot,
scoring four goals with the free position advantage.
Katherine O'Hara (Norwell, Mass.) made six saves
in the loss.
The Hawks return to the field on Saturday, heading to Stonehill
for a 1 p.m. game.
