Milford, N.H. (March 11) -- The women's
lacrosse team rolled past Southern Connecticut 16-9 on Tuesday
afternoon at the Hampshire Dome in Milford, N.H. The win improves
the Hawks to 2-2 overall, notching their first Northeast-10
conference win of the season. The loss drops Southern Connecticut
to 0-1 on the season and in conference play.
The Hawks were led by Michaela Rocha (Rye,
N.H.) and Courtney Ford (Concord, Mass.)
who both scored six goals in the game. Beth Millian
(Arlington, Mass.) added a pair of goals, while
Meghan Ayers (Sayville, N.Y.) and Emily
Traicoff (Beverly, Mass.) added a goal each. Millian also
has three assists, while Ayers, Arden Lyons (Westford,
Mass.), and Rocha all picked up two assists apiece.
Kayleigh Farrell (Nashua, N.H.), Ford, and
Alyson McDonough (Brunswick, Maine) all had an
assist each.
The Hawks went down early 1-0 thanks to Allison Kownacki
(Orange, Conn.) scoring on a free position shot for
Southern Connecticut. Ford and Rocha scored to put the Hawks up
2-1, as Teresa Monfredo (Shirley, N.Y.) knotted
the score at two scoring at the 21:06 mark in the first half. The
Hawks scored twice again, this time with Ford and Traicoff, while
the Owls responded with back-to-back Kownacki goals to tie it up at
four. Millian and Ford struck to give Saint Anselm a 6-4 lead,
while Jessica Kraszewski (West Haven, Conn.)
brought the Owls back within one. The Hawks added two late first
half goals though from Rocha and Ford, taking an 8-5 lead into the
second half.
The Hawks scored four goals to open up the lead to 12-5 to open
the second half, with Rocha striking for two of the four goals. The
Owls brought it back to within 13-9 with just over seven minutes to
play, but the Hawks added three more goals for the 16-9 victory.
Katherine O'Hara (Norwell, Mass.) made 12 saves
on the way to her second college victory, while Lisa Corso
(North Bellmore, N.Y.) made 11 saves in the loss for the
Owls.
The Hawks return to the field next Wednesday, March 19th,
heading to crosstown rival Southern New Hampshire for a 4 p.m.
