Manchester, N.H. (February 9) -- Led by a
25-point, 10-rebound double-double from standout sophomore
Johannah Leedham (Ellsmere Port, England), No. 23
ranked Franklin Pierce defeated Saint Anselm by a 64-47 final on
Saturday afternoon at Stoutenburgh Gym.
In the first half, the two teams played even for the first five
minutes before a pair of free throws by Vanessa Power
(Mildura, Australia) gave the Ravens the lead for good at
9-7 with 13:38 remaining. The Ravens got hot from three-point land
in the second half of the opening period and knocked down six long
balls in the first half to extend the lead into double digits with
4:05 left in the period. Johannah Leedham ended the half with 17
points to lead the Ravens to a 39-20 advantage at the break.
In the second period, the Ravens took as much as a 21-point lead
before the Hawks trimmed the lead down to 12 at 57-45 with 2:48,
but could get no closer in the 17-point loss.
Jennifer Gureckis (Nashua, N.H.) was the lone
Hawk in double figures with 13 points, while Meredith Amyot
(Ashford, Conn.) led the Hawks with six rebounds. Leedham
led the team with 25 points and 10 rebounds for the Ravens, as she
was joined in double figures by Jess McPherson (Croydon,
Australia) with 10 points.
With the loss, the Hawks fall to 6-17 overall and 3-15 in the
Northeast-10, while Franklin Pierce runs its win streak to four
straight and now sits at 19-4 overall and 14-4 in the league. Saint
Anselm is back in action on February 13th as the Hawks host Saint
Rose for a 5:30 p.m. start at Stoutenburgh Gym.
