Rye, N.Y. (February 23) -- The women's hockey
team dropped a 3-2 final on Saturday afternoon to Manhattanville.
The loss drops the Hawks to 21-2-0, 17-1-0 ECAC East. The win
improves the Valiants to 18-6-0, 16-2-0 ECAC East.
After a scoreless first frame, the Hawks opened up the scoring
at the 4:18 mark in the second period when Kasey Cedorchuk
(Charlestown, Mass.) found the back of the net, assisted
by Kelsey Johnson (Byfield, Mass.) and
Brittany Kretzman (Edina, Minn.). The Valiants
responded just over seven minutes later when Erin Brawley
(Stratford, Conn.) struck on the power play at the 12:44
mark, assisted by Sarah Fullerton (Port Tobacco,
Md.) and Holly Nonis (Brampton, Ontario).
The Hawks regained the lead at the 15:17 mark, as Chelsea
Fillingim (Fairbanks, Alaska) scored on the power play,
assisted by Arianna Rigano (Malden, Mass.) and
Cindy Lebel (Greenville, Maine). The Hawks took
the 2-1 lead into the third period.
The Valiants tied it up at the 8:21 mark, when Holly Nonis
scored on the power play, assisted by Erica Garcia
(Highland, Calif.). Alex Blackwell (Brewster,
N.Y.) scored her sixth goal of the season for the
game-winner on the power play, assisted by Holly Nonis and
Amanda Nonis (Brampton, Ontario).
Andrea Berlin (Durham, N.H.) made 26 saves in
the loss, while Sophia Kokkonis (East Meadow,
N.Y.) made 20 saves in the victory.
The Hawks return to the ice tomorrow, facing off against Holy
Cross in Worcester, Mass. at 3 p.m.
