Castleton, Vt. (February 2) -- Led by
Daniella Lyons' (Greene, Maine) two goals and one
assist, the women's hockey team defeated Castleton State, 5-2
Saturday afternoon. The win improves the Hawks to 18-1-0, while
staying perfect in ECAC East play at 14-0-0. The loss drops
Castleton State to 5-10-3, 4-6-3 ECAC East.
Lyons accounted for both of the Hawks first two goals. Lyons
scored at the 4:20 mark in the first period, assisted by
Bianca DeSantis (Georgetown, Mass.) and
Arianna Rigano (Malden, Mass.). Lyons then struck
again at the 7:47 mark, assisted by Kathleen Twomey
(Londonderry, N.H.) and Kelsey Johnson (Byfield,
Mass.). The Spartans cut the lead to 2-1 when
Maryanne Diehm (Rockaway Beach, N.Y.) scored at
the 8:12 mark. Rigano then scored the Hawks' third goal at the
15:00 mark on the power play, assisted by Daniella Lyons and
Arden Lyons (Westford, Mass.). The Hawks took the
3-1 lead into the second period.
Johnson then picked up her 15th goal of the season at the 7:01
mark in the second frame on the power play, assisted by Rigano and
Kasey Cedorchuk (Charlestown, Mass.). Twomey
scored at the 10:05 mark, assisted by Johnson. The Hawks took the
5-1 lead into the third period.
Adrianno Riggio (Buffalo, N.Y.) picked up the
Spartans second goal at the 9:38 mark, assisted by Diehm, for the
only score in the third frame.
