Boston, Mass. (February 9) --
Kathleen Twomey (Londonderry, N.H.) had two
assists in Saturday night's 3-1 win at UMass Boston, making her the
first player in Saint Anselm women's hockey history to reach the
100 career point plateau. The win improves the Hawks to 19-1-0 and
a perfect 15-0-0 in ECAC East action. The loss drops the Beacons to
11-9-0, 9-6-0 in conference play.
The Hawks struck first when Kelsey Johnson (Byfield,
Mass.) lit up the red light just 56 seconds into the
contest for her 16th goal of the season, assisted by Twomey
and Alexa Hingston (Charlestown, Mass.). The game
went into the first intermission with the Hawks holding the lead,
1-0.
UMass Boston tied things up though just 49 seconds into the
second frame on the power play. Hannah Davis (Oakdale,
Minn.) scored her sixth goal of the season, assisted by
Rachel Sousa (Woburn, Mass.). The Hawks re-took
the lead just over a minute later, when Hingston found the back of
the net for her sixth goal of the season, as Twomey picked up her
second assist of the game and with it her 100th career point. The
game went into the third period with the Hawks holding the one-goal
lead, 2-1.
Arianna Rigano (Malden, Mass.) netted the
Hawks' third and final goal of the night 2:45 into the third
period. Hingston and Lindsay Snow (Amherst, N.H.)
assisted on the goal.
Andrea Berlin (Durham, N.H.) picked up her 10th
win of the season, making 26 saves in the victory. Jessica
Sams (Bellingham, Mass.) made 36 saves in the loss.
The Hawks return to the ice Friday, February 15th, hosting
Southern Maine at 7 p.m. at Sullivan Arena.
