Manchester, N.H. (December 21) -- On a snowy
Sunday afternoon, the Saint Anselm women's basketball team dropped
a 67-47 final to crosstown rival Southern New Hampshire in
non-conference action at Stoutenburgh Gym.
The Penmen held a 10-point lead at the half and led by as many
as 25 points in the second half before coming away with the win.
The Hawks cut the lead down to 15 points in the final minutes, but
could get no closer.
Freshman forward Megan Howard (St. Paul, Minn.)
posted yet another double-double with a 14-point, 11-rebound effort
to go along with two blocked shots. Sophomore guard
Jennifer Gureckis (Nashua, N.H.) was the other
Hawk in double figures with a 12-point afternoon, including a pair
of three-pointers. Southern New Hampshire was led by 12 points each
from Stephanie Houghton (Manchester, N.H.) and
Jenny McDade (Derry, N.H.), while Julia
Houghtailing (Franconia, N.H.) led the team with seven
rebounds to go along with 10 points.
With the loss, Saint Anselm falls to 2-8 overall, while the
Penmen have won three straight to improve to 5-4 overall. Saint
Anselm is idle until 2009 when the Hawks host the University of
Bridgeport for a non-conference game beginning at 6 p.m. at
