Hawks Cruise to Fifth Straight Win, 94-75

Manchester, N.H. (December 21) -- Saint Anselm built a seven-point halftime lead and never trailed again as the Hawks defeated Bloomfield by a 94-75 final on Sunday afternoon at Stoutenburgh Gym in non-conference men's basketball action.

The two teams traded baskets in the early going and with 14:29 remaining in the first half, it was Bloomfield with the 11-5 lead after a jumper by Gage Daye (Newark, N.J.). Saint Anselm answered with an 11-0 lead after the next 3:34, capped by a jumper from Thomas Baudinet (Watertown, Conn.), for a 16-11 advantage. The Deacons fought back though and after a three-pointer from Omari Knox (Brooklyn, N.Y.), the visitors were up 24-20 with 6:29 remaining in the first period.

It was Saint Anselm who answered with another run as the Hawks put together a 15-2 spurt for a 35-26 advantage with 3:04 left in the half. Bloomfield got back to within three points, but got no closer in the half as the Hawks took a 41-34 lead into the break. Baudinet led the Hawks with 14 first-half points, while Knox was the leader for Bloomfield with 12 points, including a trio of three-pointers.

A 41-34 halftime lead quickly became a 16-point margin as the Hawks unloaded an 11-2 run in the first two minutes of the second half for a 52-36 lead. The Deacons got back to within nine points at 64-55 with 9:56 left, but got no closer as the Hawks pushed the lead to as many as 25 points with 3:07 left. The Hawks afternoon was capped off by a breakaway dunk by Konrad Jaworowski (Southampton, Mass.) as the hosts won their fifth straight game.

Five Hawks finished in double figures, led by a 19-point effort from Greg Vetrano (Andover, Mass.) and a 16-point, 13-rebound double-double by junior Branimir Zeko (Mississauga, Ontario). Baudinet added 17 points, along with 16 points behind four three-pointers from Pat Luptowski (Keene, N.H.). Jack Keough (Owego, N.Y.) rounded things out with 10 points off the bench. Knox led Bloomfield with a game-high 23 points.

Saint Anselm is now 8-1 overall, while Bloomfield falls to 5-4 on the season. Saint Anselm is back in action on December 30th as the team hosts Holy Family for a non-conference game beginning at 7 p.m.
