Manchester, N.H. (November 8) - The Saint
Anselm College women's ice hockey team shutout ECAC East foe
Castleton State College 3-0 Saturday afternoon at Sullivan Arena.
The win makes the Hawks 2-0-0 overall and in ECAC East action,
while the loss drops the Spartans to 0-4-0 overall and 0-2-0 in
league play.
The Hawks struck first when Senior captain Kathleen
Twomey (Londonderry, N.H.) took a pass from Sami
Tatu (Waterford, Michigan) and fellow captain Sam
Rowe (Chelmsford, Mass.) to beat Spartan netminder
Kalla Robb (Manchester, N.H.) to light the lamp
and make it 1-0 Saint Anselm with two minutes left in the 1st
period.
The second period was much of the same, as Chelsea
Fillingim (Fairbanks,
Alaska) beat Robb on a pass from
senior forward Bianca DeSantis
(Georgetown,
Mass.) to put the Hawks up 2-0.
Halfway through the 3rd period, Hawk freshman Cierra
Romaldo (Chuluota,
Fla.) scored her first collegiate
goal on a sot redirection from senior defender Maggie Dwyer
(Elkridge,
Maryland) to make it a 3-0 final.
Freshman goaltender Amy Zappen
(Huntington Beach,
Calif.) had 12 saves in her first
collegiate start and shutout of her young career. Robb had 23 saves
in the losing effort.
The Hawks return to action Friday, November 14th, as they will
travel to Saint Michael's for a 7 p.m. start. Castleton returns to
action on Friday, November 14th as well, as they will host the
University of Southern Maine at 7 p.m.
