Manchester, N.H. (November 30) -- The Saint
Anselm women's basketball team dropped a 67-42 final to American
International on Sunday afternoon in Northeast-10 play at
Stoutenburgh Gym. The Yellow Jackets knocked down 10 first-half
three-pointers to push to a 40-24 halftime lead.
The visitors came out firing in the opening half and jumped out
to a 21-5 lead midway through the period. The Hawks cut the lead
down to 14 twice before the Yellow Jackets took the 16-point lead
into the break. AIC shot 40.7 percent from the field in the second
half and held the Hawks to just six points over a stretch of seven
minutes in the half to come away with the victory.
Saint Anselm was leading by an 11-point outing from senior
Justine Lyons (Reading, Mass.). Lyons also chipped
in five assists and three rebounds in 25 minutes off the bench.
Jennifer Gureckis (Nashua, N.H.) was the other
Hawk in double figures with 10 points.
Kristin Boesenberg led all scorers with 20
points for AIC, while Sasha Lowery was the team's
leading rebounder with 10 boards.
With the loss, the Hawks fall to 0-6 overall and 0-4 in the
Northeast-10, while AIC now sits even at 4-4 overall and 3-1 in
league play. Saint Anselm is back in action on Wednesday night as
the Hawks host UMass Lowell for a 5:30 p.m. start at Stoutenburgh
Gym.
