Manchester, N.H. (November 22)-The Saint Anselm
women's ice hockey team dropped an ECAC East game to the Huskies of
Southern Maine 3-2 on Saturday afternoon at Sullivan Arena.
The Huskies started the scoring when Nani Jacobs
(Kahnawake,
Quebec) took a feed from
Kristen Wolejko (South
Windsor,
Conn.) to beat Hawks goaltender
Carley Berry
(Danvers,
Mass.) to give Southern Maine the
early 1-0 lead. After a Hawks penalty, Huskies forward
Danielle Ward
(Lansing,
Mich.) scored her first goal of
the year to make it 2-0 in favor of the visitors.
After a scoreless second period, the Hawks finally lit the lamp
when senior forward Bianca DeSantis
(Georgetown,
Mass.) beat Southern Maine goalie
Jackie Zarb (Grosse Point Woods,
Mich.) to cut the lead in half
2-1. Senior captain Kelsey Johnson
(Byfield,
Mass.) and freshman forward
Aly Zappen (Huntington
Beach,
Calif.) were both credited with
an assist.
The Huskies fired back when Katie Paradis
(Rochester,
N.Y.) netted her fifth goal of
the season to make it 3-1 Southern Maine.
Freshman forward Michelle Lacombe (Delafield,
Wisc.) fired her third goal of the season more than half
way through the third period, but it was not enough as the Huskies
skated on to a 3-2 ECAC East victory.
Berry made 19 saves on 22 shots and dropped her record to 2-1-0
on the season, while Zarb made 24 saves on 26 shots to improve her
record to 2-0-0 on the campaign.
The Hawks drop their record to 5-2-0 in league play and overall,
while the Huskies improve their record to 3-3-0 overall and 3-2-0
in ECAC East action.
The Hawks hit the ice again Wednesday, December 3rd, as they
will travel to Colby College for a 7 p.m. puck drop.
