Waterville, Maine (December 3)-The Saint Anselm
women's ice hockey team skated to a 2-2 tie with Colby College
Wednesday night at Alfond Rink in non-conference action. The tie
makes the Hawks 5-2-1 on the campaign.
The Hawks, who had travel issues and caused the game to
start over an hour late, hit the scoreboard first when
Cierra Romaldo
(Chuluota,
Fla.) took a pass from
Kristen Byrne
(Duxbury,
Mass.) and Sam Rowe
(Chelmsford,
Mass.) to put Saint Anselm up 1-0
with less than three minutes left in the first period.
The Mules fought back in the second period as senior co-captain
Colette Finley (St.
Paul,
Minn.) tallied the equalizer off
assists from Marissa Simmons (Chestnut
Hill,
Mass.) and co-captain
Heather Nickerson
(Falmouth,
Mass.) less than half way through
the stanza.
Colby took the lead in the third period, while on a 5-on-3 power
play, when Stephanie Scarpato
(Osterville,
Mass.) notched her team-best
third goal of the season from Finley to put the Mules up 2-1.
Less than six minutes later, the Hawks netted their own power
play goal as Aly Zappen (Huntington
Beach,
Calif.) nodded the game at two
off a pass from Molly Corl
(Danvers,
Mass.) for the tie.
Lacey Brown
(Freeport,
Maine) made 25 saves on 27 shots
for the Mules, while Carley Berry
(Danvers,
Mass.) stopped 29 out of 31 shots
in goal for the Hawks in the tie.
The Hawks return to action Friday, December 5th, as they will
host New England College in the last home game before the Christmas
break. The game is set to begin at 4 p.m. at Sullivan Arena.
