(November 22) - Assumption shot over 60 percent
from three-point land in the first half to open up a lead as Saint
Anselm dropped a 103-84 final to the Greyhounds on Saturday
afternoon at Laska Gym.
Assumption jumped out to a quick 12-5 lead just 4:26 into the
period before the Hawks cut the lead to three on a three-pointer
sophomore Pat Luptowski (Keene, N.H.). The lead
went back up to seven at 29-22 with 7:51 remaining before a 7-1
Hawk run cut the lead to 30-29. That run was capped by a pair of
free throws from freshman Jack Keough (Owego,
N.Y.), who went to the line after an intentional foul by
Assumption. The Greyhounds then held the Hawks scoreless for a
period of 3:10 and closed the half on a 27-9 run to open up a 57-38
lead at the halftime break. The leading scorer at the break for the
Hawks was sophomore Thomas Baudinet (Watertown,
Conn.) with 10 points, while Greg Twomey (Groton,
Mass.) paced Assumption with 18 points on 7-for-9 shooting
and a trio of three-pointers. The Hawks shot 58.3 percent from the
field and 46.2 from three-point, while the Greyhounds were red hot
from deep at 64.3 percent in the half (9-for-14).
The Greyhounds stayed hot in the second half as the came away
with their first conference win of the season. The Hawks shot 50.9
percent from the field and 50 percent from three, but were unable
to get closer than 18 points in the second half.
Baudinet led the Hawks with 20 points, while Twomey led
Assumption with 26 as five Greyhounds finished in double figures.
With the loss, the Hawks fall to 3-1 overall and 1-1 in the
Northeast-10, while Assumption now sits at 2-2 overall and 1-1 in
the league. Saint Anselm is back in action on Tuesday, November 25
as the team travels to the University of New Haven for a 7:30 p.m.
