Manchester, N.H. (November 21) - The Saint
Anselm College women's ice hockey team skated to a 7-2 victory over
the Plymouth State College Panthers at Sullivan Arena on Friday
afternoon. The Lady Hawks improved to 5-1-0 overall and in ECAC
standings play with the win.
The Hawks struck first when sophomore forward Chelsea
Fillingim (Fairbanks, Alaska) took a feed from senior
forward Samantha Rowe (Chelmsford,
Mass.) and scored her fifth goal of the season nearly
halfway through the first period.
The Hawks continued to add onto their lead later in the first
period when freshman forward Cierra Romaldo (Chuluota,
Fla.) scored from the right-side faceoff circle with an
assist by Rowe. With three assists in the game, Rowe now has six on
the season.
Following immense net pressure by the Hawks, Romaldo scored her
second goal in under two minutes behind another assist from Rowe
with 5:07 left in the period. Romaldo now has four goals in the
young season and the Hawks took a 3-0 lead heading into the first
intermission.
The Panthers got on the scoreboard early in the second period
when senior forward Elizabeth Murray scored her first goal of the
season. This goal was also the first of the season for the
Panthers, who were shut out in their previous two contests.
The Hawks continued to build on their 3-1 lead five minutes into
the second period when freshman forward Bridget Sylvester
(Randolph, N.J.) blasted a shot from the blue line and
placed it in the back of the net. That was Sylvester's first goal
of the season.
With a comfortable 4-1 lead midway through the second period,
the Hawks exploded for two more goals to build their lead at 6-1.
Freshman forward Michelle Lacombe (Delafield,
Wisc.) scored the first of the two goals with assists from
freshman forward Marissa Serafino (Rutland,
Vermont) and junior forward Daniella Lyons
(Greene, ME.). Then at 13:34 in the period, Fillingim
would score her second goal of the game.
Following two periods, the Hawks held a 6-2 lead after the
Panthers added a goal with under five minutes left in the period.
Hawks senior forward Kelsey Johnson (Byfield,
Mass.) made it 7-2 when she scored on an assist from
Sylvester halfway through the third period.
The Hawks hit the ice again tomorrow at Sullivan Arena for a
Saturday afternoon matchup against Southern Maine at 1 p.m.
