Rindge, N.H. (November 2)-The Saint Anselm
women's soccer season ended on Sunday afternoon as the Hawks were
bounced from the Northeast-10 Tournament by Franklin Pierce for the
second straight year by a final score of 5-0.
The Hawks defense and keeper Jacqueline Cooney
(Braintree,
Mass.) contained the Ravens
sophomore All-American forward Angelika Johansson
(Falkenberg,
Sweden) almost through the first
half, until Johansson scored with 42 seconds remaining on the
clock. Cooney made five saves in the opening stanza.
In the second half Johansson scored three more times to total
four goals on the day and a Division II leading 28 goals on the
season. Amanda Panaro
(Rockland,
Mass.) added another Raven goal
in the 73rd minute for the 5-0 final.
Cooney finished the game with eight saves while giving up four
goals, while teammate Micaela Smith
(Andover,
Mass.) played the last 15 minutes
in relief making one save and allowing one goal. Ravens goalie
Brittany Esther (Toms
River, N.J.) had one save in the
victory for Franklin Pierce.
The Ravens improve to 14-3-1 on the year and will await the
winner of the Southern Conn. State and Southern N.H. match to see
who they will face this Thursday, in the NE-10 Semifinals. The
Hawks under second-year head coach Tony Wallis,
finish the season with a 7-10-2 record overall.
