Manchester, N.H. (November 1) -- On Saturday
afternoon, the Saint Anselm football team dropped a 35-0 final to
the Stonehill Skyhawks on Senior Day at Grappone Stadium. Prior to
today's game, the team recognized the program's 15 seniors who were
making their final appearance at Grappone Stadium.
Stonehill jumped out to a quick 14-0 first-quarter lead on a
pair of touchdown catches by Jon Kaloyanides
before the Hawk defense began to make some headway and send the
game into the break within reach at 14-0. Stonehill added a trio of
scores in the third quarter to put the game away though, led by a
39-yard TD by Jeff Payne and a 31-yd score by QB
Cruz Parsons.
On offense for the Hawks, freshman quarterback Marc
Wilson (Farmington, Conn.) picked up 65 rushing yards on
the day and now has 929 for the season. That total leaves him just
23 yards away from setting the Saint Anselm single-season record
for rushing yards. In addition, Wilson completed 12 passes 135
yards. In the air, senior wide receiver Geoff Stevens
(Andover, Mass.) pulled down four passes for 66 yards to
lead the team.
For Stonehill, Eddie Vachon went over the
100-yard mark for rushing with 101 yards, while Payne and Cruz
combined for 106 yards and two scores. Parsons was efficient
through the air, completing 10-of-12 passes for 102 yards and three
touchdown strikes. Kaloyanides led the receiving corps with six
catches for 83 yards and two touchdowns.
Defensively, senior Brian Tormollan (Waterville,
Maine) led the Hawks with 11 tackles, including two for a
loss. Kyle Hayes (Merritt Island, Fla.) made 10
stops and had two tackles for a loss, while Dan Bohenek
(Bridgewater, Mass.) and Conor O'Brien (Scituate,
Mass.) had nine tackles each.
With the loss, the Hawks fall to 1-8 overall and 1-6 in the
Northeast-10, while Stonehill improves to 3-6 overall and 2-5 in
league play. Saint Anselm closes out the season on Saturday,
November 8th as the team travels to Pace for a Noon start in
Pleasantville, N.Y.
