Manchester, N.H. (October 4) -- On Saturday
afternoon, the Saint Anselm football team dropped a 37-6 final to
American International at the Hawk's annual Homecoming Game at
Grappone Stadium.
The Yellow Jackets got on the board with 21 seconds left in the
first quarter as Travis Poole (Brooklyn, N.Y.)
hauled in a 14-yard touchdown pass from Rob
Parent (West Warwick, R.I.), capping a three-play,
19-yard drive that took just 1:38. The field position was set up by
a 36-yard punt return by Kertis Hussey (Paterson,
N.J.).
AIC made it a 14-0 game with 6:31 remaining in the first half as
Marcus Cameron (Hempstead, N.Y.) rumbled in from
three yards out, ending a 13-play, 82-yard drive that covered 6:16
of the quarter. Mike Mayo (Roosevelt, N.Y.) added
AIC's third touchdown with just 17 seconds left in the half with a
one-yard touchdown score for the 20-0 lead. The extra-point attempt
was no good as the game was 20-0 at the halftime break.
In the second half, the Yellow Jackets made it 27-0 as Poole
pulled in a four-yard pass from Parent, Poole's ninth touchdown of
the season and second of the game. Saint Anselm got on the
scoreboard with 3:34 left in the third period as Luke St.
Marie (Mill Creek, Wash.) broke four tackles down the near
sideline for a 37-yard touchdown, his second TD of the year. AIC
wasn't done in the third quarter as Cameron scored from one yard
out with 1:35 left to make the score 34-6 heading into the final
quarter.
Just 1:29 into the fourth quarter, the Yellow Jackets extended
the lead to 37-6 as senior Marek Prezbylek (Olsztyn,
Poland) blasted a 41-yard field goal, his fourth field
goal of the season.
St. Marie led the Hawks with 77 yards on the ground, while
Marc Wilson (Farmington, Conn.) completed 15-of-25
passes. Defensively, Dan Bohenek (Bridgewater,
Mass.) led the Hawks with 11 tackles on the afternoon.
The Yellow Jackets were led by a two-touchdown afternoon by
Parent at quarterback, along with a pair of touchdowns each by
Poole and Cameron. Poole finished with 106 receiving yards on nine
receptions, while Mayo ended the afternoon with 196 yards on 30
carries.
With the loss, the Hawks fall to 0-5 overall and 0-3 in the
Northeast-10. American International is now 5-0 overall, 3-0 in the
league and has now won 11 straight regular-season games. Saint
Anselm is back in action on Friday, October 10th as the Hawks
travel to Merrimack for a 7 p.m. start under the lights at Warrior
Field in North Andover, Mass.
