Albany, N.Y. (January 8) -- On Wednesday
evening at Nolan Gym, the Saint Anselm women's basketball team fell
to Saint Rose by a 59-46 final in Northeast-10 Conference play.
Saint Anselm jumped out to a 9-6 lead with 14:12 remaining in
the first half on a three-pointer from sophomore Erin
Higgins (Mansfield, Mass.). The Golden Knights
answered though with a 12-2 run that was capped by a layup by
Ashley Anderson with 6:55 left in the half.
Neither team made a significant run over the final minutes of the
opening half and the teams headed into the break with a 24-15
advantage in favor of Saint Rose.
In the second half, the Golden Knights took control and led by a
47-28 margin with 11:10 remaining in the game. Saint Anselm
answered back though by holding the Golden Knights scoreless for
over five and a half minutes and got within nine with 6:31 on a
layup by Carleen Orawsky (Worcester, Mass.). That
was as close as Saint Anselm would get though as the hosts held off
the Hawks for the win.
Orawsky led the Hawks with 10 points and six rebound in 28
minutes. Elizabeth Buckley led the Golden Knights
with a game-high 22 points, while Anderson was the game's leading
rebounder with 12 boards.
With the loss, the Hawks fall to 5-9 overall and 2-7 in league
play, while Saint Rose improves to 6-7 overall and 3-6 in the

Thursday night as the team travels to crosstown rival Southern New
Hampshire for a 5:30 p.m. start at the SNHU Fieldhouse.
