Manchester, N.H. (January 5) -- The Saint
Anselm Hawks and the Bowdoin Polar Bears both picked up wins on
Saturday afternoon at Sullivan Arena. The Polar Bears held off a
valiant effort from No. 7 Manhattanville, 3-2 in the noon-time
game, while the Hawks defeated Williams, 5-0, in the 3 p.m. game.
The Hawks defeated Williams, 5-0, on Saturday afternoon at
Sullivan Arena to keep their winning streak alive. The Hawks now
ride a nine-game winning streak to open the season, staying perfect
at 9-0-0, while the Ephs drop to 1-7-0.
Bianca DeSantis (Georgetown, Mass.) scored her
third goal of the season off a rebound in front of the net at
the 8:43 mark into the first period. Arianna Rigano
(Malden, Mass.) assisted on the goal. The Hawks took the
1-0 lead into the second period.
After a scoreless second period, the Hawks opened up the third
period with three goals in less than two minutes. Kathleen
Twomey's (Londonderry, N.H.) one-timer found the back of
the net off a Sam Rowe (Chelmsford, Mass.) feed
just 26 seconds into the third period. DeSantis lit up the
scoreboard again to give the Hawks a 3-0 lead at the 1:14 mark,
while Alexa Hingston (Charlestown, Mass.) found
the back of the net for her first goal of the season, assisted by
Daniella Lyons (Greene, Maine) at the 1:43 mark.
The Hawks made the score 5-0 when Rigano scored a short-handed goal
at the 4:01 mark.
Andrea Berlin (Durham, N.H.) and Carley
Berry (Danvers, Mass.) combined for the shutout in net for
the Hawks.
The Hawks return to ECAC East play on Wednesday, January 9th,
hosting UMass Boston at 7 p.m. at Sullivan Arena. The Ephs return
to NESCAC play on Friday, January 11th, hosting Colby at 7 p.m.
