Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey |

Hawks Cruise Past MIT, 9-0

Manchester, N.H. (January 26) -- Led by Arianna Rigano's (Malden, Mass.) hat trick and assist, the women's hockey team cruised past MIT, 9-0, Saturday evening at the Sullivan Arena. The win improves the Hawks to 16-1-0 and keeps them perfect in league play at 12-0-0. The loss drops the Engineers to 0-11-1, 0-10-1 ECAC East.

The Hawks got on the scoreboard just 4:46 into the game, with Daniella Lyons (Greene, Maine) finding the back of the net, assisted by Bianca DeSantis (Georgetown, Mass.) and Rigano. Rigano scored her first goal of the game at the 9:45 mark in the first, assisted by DeSantis and Alexa Hingston (Charlestown, Mass.), giving the Hawks a 2-0 lead just halfway into the first period. Rigano struck again just 54 seconds later, with DeSantis picking up her third assist of the game. Kerri Aylward (Hanover, Mass.) picked up her first of two goals on the night at the 12:17 mark, assisted by Maria Dougherty (Middletown, R.I.) and Maggie Dwyer (Elkridge, Md.). Aylward picked up her second goal just minutes later unassisted. The Hawks took the 5-0 lead into the second period.

The Hawks lit up the red light twice in the second period, with Kelsey Johnson (Byfield, Mass.) scoring the first goal of the period at the 9:31 mark, assisted by Brittney Gould (Rosemount, Minn.). Samantha Rowe (Chelmsford, Mass.) scored the second goal of the period at the 19:29 mark, assisted by Chelsea Fillingim (Fairbanks, Alaska). The Hawks took the 7-0 lead into the third frame.

In the third stanza, the Hawks scored twice again. Rigano polished off her hat trick at the 1:40 mark, assisted by Kathleen Twomey (Londonderry, N.H.) and Daniella Lyons. Dougherty rounded out the scoring for the Hawks at the 19:14 mark unassisted.

Carley Berry (Danvers, Mass.) made nine saves in her first career collegiate shutout.

The Hawks return to the ice Friday, February 1st, as Plymouth State hosts the Hawks at 6 p.m.
