Manchester, N.H. (January 18) -- The women's
hockey team stayed undefeated Friday night at Sullivan Arena,
beating New England College, 4-1. The win keeps the Hawks perfect
at 13-0-0, 9-0-0 ECAC East, while the loss drops New England
College to 6-5-1, 4-3-1 in league action.
The Hawks jumped on the board early, as Alexa Hingston
(Charlestown, Mass.) scored her second goal of the season
on the power play at the 2:05 mark into the first period, assisted
by Daniella Lyons (Greene, Maine) and
Arden Lyons (Westford, Mass.). The Hawks struck
again to take a 2-0 lead at the 5:09 mark, as Arianna
Rigano (Malden, Mass.) found the back of the net for her
eighth goal of the season, assisted by Kathleen Twomey
(Londonderry, N.H.). The Hawks took the 2-0 lead into the
second period.
The Hawks took advantage of a turnover in the opposing zone
shorthanded to take a 3-0 advantage at the 9:31 mark in the second
period, when Kasey Cedorchuk's (Charlestown,
Mass.) shot from the top of the right face-off circle
found the back of the net off a deflection in traffic, assisted by
Samantha Rowe (Chelmsford, Mass.). The Hawks took
the 3-0 lead into the third frame.
New England College cut the lead to 3-1 at the 6:16 mark in the
third when Sarah Graham (Brampton, Ontario)
scored her team-leading 11th goal, assisted by Elizabeth
Ross (West Hartford, Conn.). The Hawks took back the
three-goal lead at the 17:14 mark, when Hingston scored her second
goal of the game, assisted by Tiea Kurlowecz (Concord,
Mass.) and Rowe.
Andrea Berlin (Durham, N.H.) picked up 10 saves
in the victory, improving her record in net to 8-0-0. Mary
Roux (Auburn, Mass.) had 24 saves in the loss.
The Hawks return to the ice tomorrow, hosting Southern Maine at
3 p.m. at Sullivan Arena.
