Manchester, N.H. (January 19) -- The women's
hockey team made it 14 straight wins Saturday afternoon beating
Southern Maine, 4-1. The win improves the Hawks to 14-0-0, 10-0-0
ECAC East, while the loss drops the Huskies to 4-11-0, 4-5-0 in
league play.
The Hawks opened up scoring at the 15:47 mark in the first, when
Kelsey Johnson (Byfield, Mass.) picked up a loose
rebound on the power play and scored, assisted by Chelsea
Fillingim (Fairbanks, Alaska) and Kasey Cedorchuk
(Charlestown, Mass.). The Hawks took the 1-0 advantage
into the second frame.
The Huskies tied it up on the power play when Megan
Irving (Cumberland, Maine) found the back of the net at
the 2:13 mark in the second period, assisted by Katie
Quartuccio (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) and Jenna Stanley
(Enosburg Falls, Vt.).
The Hawks took back the lead at the 11:36 mark when Johnson
scored her second power play goal of the game. Johnson tipped in
Alexa Hingston's (Charlestown, Mass.) slapshot
from the point, with Cedorchuk picking up her second assist of the
game. The Hawks scored their third power play goal of the game,
with Hingston picking up her third goal in two games, assisted by
Kathleen Twomey (Londonderry, N.H.) at the 15:55
mark. The Hawks took the 3-1 lead into the third period.
The Hawks broke out of the power play theme, this time scoring
short-handed at the 12:19 mark in the third frame, with
Bianca DeSantis (Georgetown, Mass.) scoring the
unassisted tally to give the Hawks their final goal.
The Hawks return to the ice Wednesday night, hosting
second-ranked Middlebury at 7 p.m. at Sullivan Arena.
