Manchester, N.H. (September 4) -- On Tuesday
afternoon, the Saint Anselm field hockey team dropped a 2-0
final to UMass Lowell in Northeast-10 action. The game was the
second time in three games the Hawks faced a nationally-ranked
opponent.
After a scoreless first half, the River Hawks got on the board
at the 54:31 mark when Sammy Macy found the back
of the net. UMass Lowell extended its lead to 2-0 just eight
minutes later when Heather Woodward tipped in a
shot from Michelle Harrington to close out the
scoring.
Sophomore Riley Haddock (Falmouth, Maine)
made 11 saves in the loss for the Hawks, while UMass Lowell
goalie Danielle Dodier turned aside five shots to
pick up the victory.
With the loss, the Hawks fall to 1-2 overall and in league play,
while the River Hawks improve to 2-1 overall and 1-1 in
Northeast-10 action. Saint Anselm is back in action on Thursday,
September 6th as the team travels to Assumption for a 3:30 p.m.
