Worcester, Mass. (September 6) -- On Thursday
afternoon, the Saint Anselm field hockey team dropped a 2-1
overtime final at Assumption in a Northeast-10 contest.
Karrie Muma (N. Falmouth, Mass.) got the
scoring started just 12:09 into the game with her second goal in
three games off an assist from Sam Rowe (Chelmsford,
Mass.). The Greyhounds tied things up just 3:41 later on a
goal from Hillary Zysk and the two teams remained
scoreless until 2:42 into the overtime period. That was when
Maura Strickland scored her first goal of the
season to send the Greyhounds to their second victory of the
season.
Riley Haddock (Falmouth, Maine) finished with a
career-high 16 saves in the loss, while Kaitlin Burke turned aside
seven Hawk shots. Overall, Assumption outshot Saint Anselm by a
26-10 margin.
The Hawks fall to 1-3 overall and in Northeast-10 play, while
Assumption is now 2-1. Saint Anselm is back in action on September
12th when the team travels to Bryant for a 7 p.m. start.
