Manchester, N.H. (September 24) -- A
second-half goal from senior Michele Baca (Franklin,
N.H.) lifted the Saint Anselm field hockey team to its
second straight home win in a 2-1 victory over Franklin Pierce.
Junior Sam Rowe (Chelmsford, Mass.) scored her
third goal in two games just 5:25 into the first half, off an
assist from sophomore Karrie Muma (N. Falmouth,
Mass.). Less than four minutes later, the Ravens tied the
game up on Nicole Henrique's first goal of the
season and the two teams went into the halftime break tied at 1-1.
In the second half it was the Hawks who came out firing early in
the period and that intensity quickly paid off. At the 41:11 mark,
Baca tallied her first goal of the season off the assist from Rowe
and the Hawks held off the Ravens for the remainder of the game for
the win.
Sophomore Riley Haddock (Falmouth, Maine) made
two saves to pick up her third victory of the year, while Franklin
Pierce goalie Tevis Hannington turned aside one
shot in the loss.
With the win, the Hawks improve to 3-6 overall and in
Northeast-10 play, while Franklin Pierce falls to 0-11 overall and
0-8 in league play. Saint Anselm is back in action on Wednesday,
September 26th when the Hawks host nationally-ranked Bentley for a
4 p.m. start. The Hawks dropped the season opener at Bentley by a
1-0 final back on August 29th.
