Philadelphia, Pa. (September 15) -- The men's
soccer team defeated Holy Family 4-2 in Philadelphia on Saturday
afternoon. The win improves the Hawks to 3-3-1 overall, while
the loss drops Holy Family to 2-2 overall.
After playing to a 0-0 tie through the first half, both teams
came out hungry to score in the second half. The Hawks jumped
on the board first, as Sam Lamptey (Worcester,
Mass.) scored his fourth goal of the season at the 59:15
mark, assisted by Anthony Vercollone (Pembroke,
Mass.).
Holy Family wasted little time in knotting up the score with
Steven Kientzy scoring at the 61:17 mark.
Tim Hubbard (Marshfield, Mass.) gave the Hawks
a 2-1 lead, scoring his fourth goal of the season at the 67:38
mark, assisted by Sam Lamptey and Matt Sawyer (Henniker,
N.H.).
Again, Holy Family tied the game quickly, as James
Latronica scored at the 70:11 mark.
The Hawks took the lead for good at the 72:19 mark, when
Jon Cournoyer (N. Granby, Conn.) netted his third
goal of the season, assisted by Tim Hubbard and Rob
Thatcher (Topsfield, Mass.). The Hawks added an
insurance goal at the 89:46 mark, making the score 4-2. The
goal was scored by Tim Hubbard, his second of the game, assisted by
Jon Cournoyer and Rob Thatcher.
The Hawks are back in action hosting Saint Michael's on Tuesday,
September 18 at 3:30 on Melucci Field.
