Manchester, N.H. (September 1) -- On Saturday
afternoon, the Saint Anselm field hockey team captured its home
opener with a 1-0 shutout win over American International. The win
was the first career victory for first-year head coach
Kathryn Gaudreau.
The lone score of the game came at the 23:31 mark when
Karrie Muma (N. Falmouth, Mass.) tallied her first
goal of the season to give the Hawks the lead. The defense, led by
sophomore goalkeeper Riley Haddock (Falmouth,
Maine), preserved the win as Haddock made nine saves in
the win. Cindy Armand turned aside five shots for
the Yellow Jackets in the loss.
With the win, the Hawks improved to 1-1 overall and in the
Northeast-10, while American Int'l falls to 1-1 overall and in
league play. Saint Anselm is back in action on Tuesday when UMass
Lowell visits Manchester for a 4:00 p.m. start.
