Waltham, Mass. (August 29) -- In the 2007
season opener, the Saint Anselm field hockey team dropped
a 1-0 final to No. 3 ranked Bentley in Northeast-10 Conference
action. The game was the first for first-year Saint Anselm
head coach Kathryn Gaudreau.
The Hawks played the Falcons even in the first half as the shots
were 10-8 in favor of the home team. Bentley was the one that found
the back of the net though as Nicole Murphy scored
her first goal of the season at the 25:35 mark. The Hawks stayed
within striking distance in the second half despite being outshot
15-3 in the period, but were unable to notch the game-tying score.
Sophomore goalkeeper Riley Haddock (Falmouth,
Maine) made 10 saves in the loss, while Alyssa
Sliney turned aside six shots for Bentley in the win.
With the loss, the Hawks fall to 0-1 overall and in the
Northeast-10. Saint Anselm is back in action on Saturday, September
1st when the team hosts American International for its home opener
beginning at 11 a.m.
