Manchester, N.H. (August 23) -- The Saint
Anselm men's soccer team (0-0-1, 0-0-0 NE-10) opened its 2007
season playing to a 2-2 tie against No. 24 Dominican College
(0-0-1, 0-0-0 CACC) in double overtime.
Dominican jumped in front 1-0 thanks to a Jhonny Arteaga
(Stamford, Conn.) blast, barely clearing the hands of goalkeeper
Scott Johnson (Plymouth, Mass.). The goal
came at the 20:14 mark and was assisted by Joe Wright
(Stratford-Upon-Avon, N.Y.).
The Hawks went into the half down 1-0, but rebounded well in the
second half. At the 50:26 mark, Tyler Waldrupe
(Manchester, N.H.) ripped a shot from about 25 yards out,
hitting the crossbar and bouncing down into the net.
Tim Hubbard (Marshfield, Mass.) was credited with
the assist.
The Hawks added a second goal on the most exciting play in
soccer, the penalty kick. Tim Hubbard was fouled inside the
box at the 61:48 mark and converted on the penalty kick, giving the
Hawks a 2-1 lead.
Dominican refused to give in to the Hawks, as Jhonny Arteaga
added his second goal of the game at the 77:09 mark, assisted by
Joseph Ruesgen (Campbeltown, Scotland), to tie the game 2-2.
After two exciting overtime periods, neither team converted,
leaving the final score 2-2.
The Hawks play next on Saturday, August 25, hosting Saint Leo
University. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m.
