Manchester, N.H. (December 8) -- Led by
Kelsey Johnson's (Byfield, Mass.) hat trick, the
women's hockey team made it seven straight wins on Saturday night,
beating Castleton State, 5-0, at Sullivan Arena. The win improves
the Hawks to a flawless 7-0-0, 6-0-0 ECAC East, while the loss
drops Castleton to 2-3-3, 1-1-3 ECAC East.
The Hawks got on the board first, when Johnson found the
back of the net at the 7:46 mark, assisted by Arianna
Rigano (Malden, Mass.). The Spartans had a quality
opportunity to tie it up with less than 30 seconds remaining in the
period, but Andrea Berlin (Durham, N.H.) made a
pair of saves with a scramble in front of the net.
The Hawks extended the lead to 3-0 in the second period with
goals from Rigano and Kathleen Twomey (Londonderry,
N.H.). Rigano's goal came at the 6:05 mark, assisted by
Johnson and Arden Lyons (Westford, Mass.), while
Twomey's goal came just 16 seconds later, assisted by
Samantha Rowe (Chelmsford, Mass.) and
Daniella Lyons (Greene, Maine).
The Hawks added two more goals in the third, both shorthanded
goals by Johnson. Johnson's second goal of the game came unassisted
just 24 seconds into the period, while she added her third goal at
the 11:28 mark, assisted by Rigano and Cindy Lebel
(Greenville, Maine).
After an extensive break for finals and holidays, the Hawks
return to the ice on January 4th, hosting Bowdoin at 6
p.m. at Sullivan Arena.
