Hawks Extend Win Streak to Six

Norwich, Vt. (December 2) -- The Saint Anselm women's hockey team made it six straight wins on Sunday afternoon, defeating Norwich 5-1 at Norwich's Kreitzberg Arena. The win improves the Hawks to 6-0-0, 5-0-0 ECAC East, while the loss drops Norwich to 2-2-1, 1-2-1 ECAC East.

For the first time this season, the Hawks did not score first in a game. Norwich's Kelsey Cone (Manchester, Vt.) ripped a shot from the blue line past Andrea Berlin (Durham, N.H.) at the 14:01 mark in the first period, her third goal of the season, giving the Cadets a 1-0 lead.

The Hawks responded quickly, when Rachel Cooke (Stowe, Vt.) scored her first goal of the season, a shot from the left faceoff circle, assisted by Maggie Dwyer (Elkridge, Md.), at the 18:12 mark of the first period. The Hawks and the Cadets went into the first intermission knotted at one.

Brittany Kretzman (Edina, Minn.) scored the game-winner for the Hawks in the second period, assisted by Kathleen Twomey (Londonderry, N.H.) and Kelsey Johnson (Byfield, Mass.), at the 7:11 mark.

The Hawks tacked on three more goals in the final period. Johnson scored her fourth goal of the season at the 5:21 mark, assisted by Mollie Welch (Medford, Mass.) and Cindy Lebel (Greenville, Maine). Arianna Rigano (Malden, Mass.) picked up her third goal of the season at the 15:11 mark, while Kerri Aylward (Hanover, Mass.) scored her second goal in as many games at the 16:30 mark, assisted by Daniella Lyons (Greene, Maine) and Rigano.

Berlin made 14 saves in the victory, her third of the season. Cindy Fortin (Quebec City, Que.) made 33 saves in the loss for Norwich.

The Hawks are off until Saturday, December 8, hosting Castleton State at 7:00 p.m. at Sullivan Arena.
