Hawks Pick Up Second Straight Win

Manchester, N.H. (December 1) -- Led by Rachel Reilly's (Londonderry, N.H.) 23 points, Saint Anselm's women basketball team won its second straight game on Saturday afternoon over the Le Moyne Dolphins, 74-63.

After coming out of the first half down by three, the Hawks took the lead after a three-pointer from Erin Higgins (Mansfield, Mass.) tied it up at 34-34 just 10 seconds into the second half. Reilly picked up the next jumper to give the Hawks the 36-34 lead, a lead which Saint Anselm did not relinquish for the rest of the game.

Le Moyne went on a 5-0 run to bring the score back to 64-61, thanks to a three-pointer from Kim Wagoner (Cicero, N.Y.) and a layup by Katie Dunn (Whippany, N.J.), with just 1:27 to play. Head coach Chris Leazier called a timeout to regroup, with the Hawks on the verge of giving up the 11 point lead they held just minutes before.

After Carleen Orawsky (Worcester, Mass.) made four straight clutch free throws, the Hawks took a comfortable seven point lead with less than a minute to play. Justine Lyons (Reading, Mass.), Higgins, and Reilly converted six more free throws down the stretch, as the Hawks went a perfect 12-for-12 from the free throw line in the closing two minutes of the game.

Reilly led the Hawks with 23 points going 8-for-12 from the floor, going 3-for-5 from the three point line and a perfect 4-for-4 from the free throw line. Lyons picked up 20 points going perfect from the floor at 6-for-6, 2-for-2 from the three point line, and 6-for-9 from the free throw line. Orawsky had 10 points to go along with seven rebounds.

Leading the way for the Dolphins was Jacquelin Precious (Ontario, Canada) with 12 points, while Courtney Coryea (Mooers Forks, N.Y.) had 10 points to go along with 11 rebounds. Danielle Felice (Adams, N.Y.) also played well with 10 points and five assists.

The Hawks return to the court Tuesday, hosting Southern New Hampshire at 5:30 p.m. Southern New Hampshire won the last meeting between these cross-town rivals, 70-58, at Southern New Hampshire.
