Rindge, N.H. (October 4) -- On Thursday
evening, Franklin Pierce avenged an earlier loss to Saint Anselm as
the Ravens defeated the Hawks by a 3-0 final in Northeast-10
field hockey action at Sodexho Field.
The Ravens got on the board first late in the opening half as
Stephanie Howard (Norwalk, Conn.) scored on a
deflected shot that squeaked inside the right post past Saint
Anselm goalie Riley Haddock (Falmouth, Maine) and
the hosts took a 1-0 lead into the halftime break.
In the second half, the Ravens continued to pour on the offense
as Mary Beth Huszar (Greenville, N.H.) took a shot
that was blocked by Haddock, but Ashley Abernethy
(Bellingham, Mass.) was there to poke home the rebound for
her third goal of the season with 13:28 remaining. Howard added a
goal with 51 seconds remaining to account for the 3-0 final.
With the loss, the Hawks drop to 4-8 overall and in league play,
while Franklin Pierce picks up its first win and is now 1-12
overall and 1-9 in the Northeast-10. Saint Anselm is back in action
on Saturday, October 6th as the Hawks host Assumption for an 11
a.m. start.
