Waltham, Mass. (October 27) -- On Saturday
afternoon, the Saint Anselm football team dropped a 52-6 final to
Bentley College in Northeast-10 Conference action.
Bentley took advantage of a Saint Anselm fumble on the first
possession of the game as the Falcons fired a 53-yard touchdown
pass to Jon Kaczka on their first play from
scrimmage for a 7-0 lead with 13:45 left in the first quarter. The
Falcons scored on each of its first three possessions of the game
on a pair of John White passing touchdowns and a
rushing TD from Luis Cotto and held a 21-0 lead
after the first quarter.
In the second quarter, Bentley scored twice more on a 32-yard TD
pass from Henry Morris to Jehan
Murphy and a 21-yard scoring strike to Kaczka from Morris
for a 35-0 halftime advantage.
The Falcons capitalized on another turnover to begin the second
half and pushed the lead to 42-0 on an eight-yard TD from White to
John Studley. After Bentley kicker Tyler
McNamara booted home a 43-yard field goal to tie the
Bentley career school record, the Hawks got on the board on a
25-yard TD run by junior Conor Cahill (Salem,
Mass.) to close within 45-6. The extra point attempt was
blocked following the score. Bentley scored its final touchdown
with 7:49 remaining as Liam Regan took it in from
68 yards out for the 52-6 final.
Senior quarterback Nick Barese (Braintree,
Mass.) finished the game 13-of-23 for 126 yards and two
interceptions, while Cahil was the team's leading rusher with 75
yards and one touchdown. Senior wide receiver Corey
Williams (Billerica, Mass.) became the school's all-time
leader in kick return yardage after a 72-yard afternoon and now has
1,194 career kick return yards. For the Falcons, starting QB John
White was just 6-for-14 in the air for 96 yards, but found the end
zone three times. Backup Henry Morris connected on 9-of-11 attempts
for a pair of scores as well.
With the loss, Saint Anselm drops to 0-8 overall and 0-7 in the
Northeast-10, while Bentley hangs onto second place in the
league and is now 6-2 overall and in league play. Saint Anselm is
back in action on Saturday, November 3rd as the Hawks hit the road
to American International for their final road game of the season.
