No. Andover, Mass. (October 13) -- On a
blustery Warrior Field on Saturday evening, the Saint Anselm field
hockey team picked up a 2-1 win over Merrimack to improve to 6-9
overall and 6-8 in league play. The Hawks, under the direction
of first-year head coach Kathryn Gaudreau, set the
single-season school record for Northeast-10 victories with the win
and remain in the Northeast-10 playoff hunt with two regular-season
games remaining.
The Warriors took the lead in the opening minutes when
Jaclyn Germano scored off a penalty corner for her
third goal of the season at the 7:10 mark. The Hawks tied things up
quickly though at 10:59 with an unassisted score from
Karrie Muma (N. Falmouth, Mass.), her fourth goal
of the season. Saint Anselm kept the pressure on and just 1:04
later, freshman Annie Heaney (East Kingston, N.H.)
scored her fourth goal of the season to give the Hawks the lead for
good. Maggie Dwyer (Elkridge, Md.) assisted on the
game-winning goal.
Merrimack outshot the Hawks by a 12-6 margin, but were led
defensively by netminder Riley Haddock (Falmouth,
Maine) and her eight-save performance. Ellen
Maruszewski (Leominster, Mass.) came up big defensively as
well with a pair of defensive saves in the game.
The Hawks are back in action on Tuesday, October 16th when
Bryant visits Manchester for the team's final home game of the
season and Senior Day. Senior co-captain Michele Baca
(Franklin, N.H.) will be recognized prior to the start of
the game, which is slated to begin at 4 p.m.
