Manchester, N.H. (September 24, 2005)—C.W. Post quarterback
Rob Blount (Inwood, N.Y.) threw for three touchdowns and ran for two more as the Pioneers cruised to a 73-17 win over Saint Anselm in a Northeast-10 Conference game at Grappone Stadium Saturday.
Saint Anselm (1-3, 0-3 NE-10) opened up the scoring on its first play from scrimmage on an 80-yard catch and run from
Dan Cohen (Wilbraham, Mass./ Minnechaug Reg.) to
Corey Williams (Billerica, Mass./ UMass Dartmouth). Blount then threw a pair of scoring passes to put C.W. Post (3-1, 3-0 NE-10) ahead 14-7.
The Hawks then capped an 11-play drive with a 40-yard field goal from
Michael Garcarz (New Britain, Conn./ New Britain) to cut the deficit to 14-10. It was all CWP after that however, as the Pioneers scored at the end of the opening quarter and added 35 second quarter points to blow the game wide open.
Blount threw for 234 yards on 19-for-28 passing and 46 yards on three rushes, all in the first half to lead the victors. Freshman tailback
Anthony Lazarus (S. Ozone Point, N.Y.) added 182 rushing yards on just 10 touches and the visitors also scored on an interception return for a touchdown and a punt return TD.
Cohen finished his day with 14 completions on 35 attempts for 154 yards while the Hawks' receiving corps was led by
Pat Turner (N. Andover, Mass./ N. Andover), who had five catches for 34 yards.
Defensive for Saint Anselm,
Joe Shuker (Millis, Mass./ Millis),
Anthony Barese (Braintree, Mass./ Braintree), and
Mike Bombardier (Kingston, Mass./ Silver Lake) all had nine total tackles.
Defensive back
Kermit Atkinson (Brooklyn, N.Y.) led CWP with six total tackles and two pass breakups.
Saint Anselm returns to action next Saturday when the Hawks travel to Stonehill for the Northeast-10 Conference Game of the Week.
