SAINT ANSELM SUCCUMBS TO HARTWICK ATTACK, 46-21

MANCHESTER, NH (Sep. 16) --- Quarterback Dan Pincelli passed for 399 yards and five touchdowns and Hartwick College amassed over 500 yards of total offense as they defeated Saint Anselm College 46-21 at Hartwick this afternoon.

The loss kept Saint Anselm winless to open the 2000 season as they dropped to 0-2 overall. Hartwick, a Division III independent program, improved to 2-1 on the season.

Pincelli connected with Ryan Soule, Greg Balcavage and Ryan Johnson for two touchdowns each as Hartwick built a 21-7 lead at halftime and pulled away with two scores in the third quarter and added two more in the fourth.

Saint Anselm quarterback Keith Comeau improved his numbers from the previous week, connecting on 18-37 pass attempts for three touchdowns and was intercepted twice. Jeff Farragher led the Hawks receiver corps with eight catches for 98 yards and two touchdowns. Jason Case added 34 yards on three catches.
Jon Turner carried 17 times for 44 yards on the ground as Saint Anselm finished with 319 yards of total offense.

But it was the Hawks propensity for giving up the big play that caused problems. Hartwick scored four times on pass plays of more than 39 yards, connecting on touchdown connections of 39, 45, 73 and 80 yards as part of it's afternoon.

Hartwick also finished with a 25-14 advantage in first downs.

Trailing 7-0 after one quarter, Saint Anselm tied the game on a 11 yard pass from Comeau to Farragher, but on the ensuing Hartwick drive, Pincelli hit Balcavage for a 73 yarder that put Hartwick ahead to stay.

Saint Anselm will look to get it's first win as they play in their season home opener next Saturday against CAW. Post at 1:00 P.M.
