Shannon Smith joined Saint Anselm College in July 2021 as the institution’s Head Strength & Conditioning Coach. She also oversees the Spagnuolo Fitness Center, the on-campus fitness facility available to the entire Saint Anselm community.

Smith comes to the Hilltop from Stanford University where she served as a Sports Performance Coach for numerous NCAA Division I programs. Implementing a variety of training programs for the Cardinal, she also implemented testing protocols for Force Plate, Nordboard and Force Frame systems, collecting data to monitor and improve the performance of student-athletes.

She also worked at the University of Denver as a Sports Performance Fellow, working with men’s and women’s tennis, men’s and women’s diving and the club rugby squad. Smith was also one of just two individuals selected nationally to conduct a National Strength & Conditioning Association Assistantship during her time in the Mile High City, working as the primary assistant for several of the institution’s NCAA Division I sports teams.

No stranger to the Northeast-10 Conference, Smith was a Graduate Fellow Strength & Conditioning Coach at former Hawks rival, Merrimack College, during the 2018-19 academic year. The season prior, she was the Assistant Strength & Conditioning Coach at Aurora University, working with four teams.

Smith got her start in the field at her alma mater, the University of New England, during the 2016-17 academic year as an intern in the Strength & Conditioning department. The native of Naperville, Ill. played Division III women’s ice hockey for the Nor’easters and set the school record for single-season goal scoring with 14 in 2014-15.
