Ryan Small enters his second season as the Assistant Director of Athletic Communications at Saint Anselm in 2020-21.
Small comes to the Hilltop after serving as a Graduate Assistant for NCAA Division II Millersville University, recently graduating with a master’s degree in Sport Management. With the Marauders, Small provided coverage of 10 of Millersville’s 19 varsity sports teams while also overseeing and directing the high-definition live stream broadcast.
He was tasked with developing the student work study staff and managed all live statistics for his assigned sports, most recently providing assistance at two NCAA Division II Atlantic Baseball Regionals, hosted by Millersville.
Small has gained valuable on-the-job experiences through internships at Messiah College, Tufts University and Harvard University. During his time with each of the aforementioned athletics departments, Small has provided game-day media relations coverage for numerous NCAA postseason events, including men’s soccer, women’s basketball and softball.
At NCAA Division III Messiah, Small served as the men’s lacrosse contact and also provided coverage for most of the Falcons’ spring sports. During his time at Tufts, he covered women’s soccer, men’s golf and men’s ice hockey under the direction of Paul Sweeney, the Irving T. Marsh Service Bureau Award winner from ECAC-SIDA, and was the official scorer for the 2016 NCAA Division III Elite Eight for men’s soccer.
No stranger to the Queen City, Small was an intern for the New Hampshire Fisher Cats, the Double-A baseball affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays. He began his tenure as an intern in 2015 and later was promoted to Marketing and Promotions Assistant in 2016.
A member of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), he is a district coordinator on the CoSIDA Academic All-America Committee. Small also serves as a member of the CoSIDA Young Professionals Committee.
A 2017 graduate of Endicott College with a bachelor’s degree in Sport Management and a minor in Business, Small was employed within the sports information office under Shawn Medeiros, the 2019 recipient of the 2019 College Sports Information Directors of America Rising Star award.
