Peter Early was selected as the first Director of Track & Field and Cross Country at Saint Anselm College on Friday, Aug. 26, 2022 and enters his fourth season on the Hilltop as the Hawks prepare for the 2026-27 cross country and track & field seasons.
The track & field program made major strides in its third season, starting with a fourth place finish for the men and a second place finish for the women, their highest placements in program history, at the 2026 NE10 Indoor Championship. On the men's side, Montgomery broke the NE10 Championship record in the 400-meter dash, which had stood since 2011, clocking in at 47.29 to claim the conference title. Montgomery also won the 200-meter dash title, and was awarded both the Men's Most Outstanding Track Performer and the Men's Most Valuable Athlete. The women's team's incredible team performance, leading to a runner-up finish, was carried by five podium finishes including gold medals in the 4x400m relay race and the high jump.
Montgomery was named the NE10 Indoor Track Athlete of the Year and the USTFCCCA East Region Track Athlete of the Year following the winter season. Postseason awards for the indoor season kept rolling in, as nine men and five women earned USTFCCCA All-Region honors and seniors Christian Wetzel and Rebecca Cady were both selected to the NE10 Academic All-Conference Team.
The women had another excellent spring, coming in second place at the 2026 NE10 Outdoor Championship, another program-best mark, with nine podium finishes and three gold medals over the course of the two-day event. The men also had their best-ever finish at any NE10 Championship, placing third with nine podiums and three first-place finishes at the 2026 outdoors. Sophomore Logan Montgomery was named the men's most valuable performer and Reese Nicolosi was named the women's most valuable performer, while Marissa Abis earned the NE10's Elite 24 Award for having the highest cumulative grade point average at the championship event with a 4.0 as a Communications & Criminal Justice double major.
The Hawks had two New England Champions on the men's side at the 2026 NEICAAA Outdoor Championships, followed by two women claiming New England titles. At the conclusion of the spring, a program-record five women and 10 men were named to the USTFCCCA All-Region Team while Montgomery was named the USTFCCCA East Region Track Athlete of the Year. Montgomery was named the Northeast 10 Outdoor Track Athlete of the Year, while the Hawks earned the men's Coaching Staff of the Year
The men's squad came in fifth place at both the indoor and outdoor NE10 Championships in 2025 with Montgomery becoming the first Hawk in program history to take home an NE10 Championship crown, winning the indoor 400-meter race. Montgomery was later named the NE10 Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field Rookie of the Year. Montgomery also earned USTFCCCA Indoor All-East Region honors in both the 200m and 400m races. Stephen Quinn was also awarded with an NE10 Academic All-Conference accolade after the winter season. The Hawks 4x100m relay team of freshman Joseph D'Angelo, senior Bowen Lewis, senior Kaleb Lewis, and junior Jaidin Haynes earned All-New England honors for their seventh place finish at 2025 New England Outdoor Championships, with freshman Mubeshire Bradshaw joining them on the All-New England squad after placing eighth in the pole vault.
Montgomery capped off his historic freshman campaign in the spring of 2025 when he earned a spot at the USA U20 Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Montgomery logged the fasted 400m time in the East Region, and traveled to Eugene, Oregon to compete on the campus of the University of Oregon where he finished eighth with a time of 47.40.Â
The men earned six medals at the 2025 NE10 outdoor championship led by Jaidin Haynes who won his first gold medal in the 100m dash followed by Montgomery who won the 400m dash. Montgomery placed second in the 200m race and the 4x400m relay team also earned a second place finish. Peter Hogan podiumed in both the high jump (third place), and the decathlon (third place) to round out the Hawks top performers.Â
The women's team received USTFCCCA All-East Region Honors during the 2025 indoor season for four different events with six Hawks being acknowledged. Rebecca Cady (400m, 4x400m), Nora Conway (5000m), Samantha Ducharme (800m, 4x400m), Jessica Bremberg (4x400m), and Meredith Pasquarosa (4x400m). Cady was also awarded with an NE10 Academic All-Conference honor for the winter season. The Hawks placed third at the NE10 Indoor Championship fueled by seven podium finishes including a gold medal in the 4x400m relay race. Another seven medalists during the 2025 NE10 Outdoor championships saw the women place fourth in their second-ever appearance in the event.
The Hawks competed in their first NE10 Indoor Championship in 2024, with the men coming in seventh place followed by the team's debut in the NEICAAA Indoor Championships. The men placed seventh in their NE10 Outdoor Championship debut in the spring of 2024, with several Hawks earning top-10 finishes. Alex Horan and Michael Rochette Jr. were both named to the NE10 Academic All-Conference team following the 2024 outdoor season.
The inaugural women's squad had an impressive debut season, with three Hawks earning USTFCCCA All-East Region honors during the indoor campaign, including Rebecca Cady (400m), Mia Cruz (60m), and Anyelina Martinez (800m, Mile). Cady also earned NE10 Academic All-Conference honors during in the spring of 2024. Saint Anselm made its NE10 Indoor Championship debut with a fifth-place finish in 2024, led by five podium finishes. The team placed fifth in their first-ever NE10 Outdoor Championship with Martinez podiuming in the 1500m race, taking home the silver medal. The 4x100m relay team also placed second at the event. At the 2024 New England Outdoor Championships, Pasquarosa earned All-New England distinctions after a fourth place finish in the 200m dash.
An experienced coach at the NCAA Division II level, Early joined Saint Anselm from fellow Northeast-10 Conference member Assumption University where he was the Head Men’s and Women’s Cross Country and Track & Field Coach. With the Greyhounds since May 2021, Early helped the men’s cross country team secure its best finish at the NE10 Championship, hosted by Saint Anselm this past Fall.
Prior to his stint at Assumption, Early was the Head Cross Country and Track & Field Coach at Coker University for three seasons. He previously played a pivotal role in the formation of the men’s and women’s track & field programs at Merrimack College. He joined the Warriors as a coach shortly after the formation of their NCAA Division II teams in 2010-11, departing for Coker in 2018.
Across a coaching career that spans over a decade, Early has mentored over 50 All-Region award recipients, had 40 student-athletes earn qualifying marks in NCAA Division II, and developed 23 All-Americans. 20 of his student-athletes captured league championships and he also coached Carly Muscaro, a six-time National Champion at Merrimack in the 200m/400m.
Early received the United States Track Field and Cross Country Coaches' Association’s National Assistant Coach of the Year award in 2016-17. Also picking up East Region Assistant Coach of the Year honors, Early was honored for his work with the first two individual competitors from Merrimack to qualify for Nationals.
A 2011 graduate of Merrimack with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Early was a member of both the football and track & field programs with the Warriors, earning All-Academic Team placement. As a student-athlete, Early secured All-New England plaudits in the 4x100 meter relay and captained the first men’s track & field team at Merrimack.
Early received a master’s degree in College Athletic Administration in 2020 from Coker. He resides in Haverhill, Mass. with his wife, Andrea, and two children, Peter and Madelynn.
